RTD's new online system to be ready in June

Updated 29 March 2012

THE Road Transport Department's revamped online system will be fully operational in June, allowing the public to get all the department's services and do most of the transactions online.

To be known as "mySIKAP", the RM282 million system has bigger capacity and better security than its predecessor, "SIKAP" or Sistem Informasi Kenderaan dan Pemandu (Vehicles and Drivers Information System).

RTD director-general Datuk Solah Hassan said the user-friendly system would help the agency achieve its target of having 85 per cent of its services on the Internet by 2015.

"We are confident that we can achieve the target earlier as the system is easy to use and is linked to other service providers, such as MyEG Services Berhad," he said after presenting excellent service awards to 494 RTD employees from the peninsula yesterday.

Solah said members of the public should access the system themselves as the department would not appoint any agents to provide the online services.

He added that members of the public could also go to RTD counters for normal services.

He said the revamped system would allow the public to book vehicle registration numbers for any state. They can also get the latest statistics on new vehicle registrations and ownership transfers.

He said present online services, such as road tax and driving licence renewal and automatic vehicle registration or e-daftar, would be integrated into mySIKAP.

Solah said the temporary ownership transfer or "E-Tukar Hakmilik Sementara" service would also be part of the system and the official launching for the service would be held next week.

For "E-Tukar Hakmilik Sementara", he said an owner would have to pay RM25 to temporarily transfer the ownership of his vehicle to a used-car dealer for six months.

Solah said upgrading the system was in line with the government's transformation programme which to was encourage the use of online services up to 85 per cent by 2015.

On the excellent service awards, Solah said 587 RTD employees had been selected this year and those from Sabah and Sarawak would be getting theirs next month.
